Is it possible that global warming will just continue to escalate perpetually?
Q. When snow and ice, which are reflective, melt they reveal the dark ground, which absorbs heat, beneath which in turn melts more of the reflective ice.
Asked by stephen s - Mon Mar 3 06:59:08 2008 - Global Warming - 8 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Not perpetually, no, but it's possible that this scenario could occur for hundreds of years. What you're talking about is a feedback, and there are several of them. Melting ice causing the Earth to become less reflective and more absorbant (decreased albedo), CO2 and methane released from melting permafrost, and oceans emitting more CO2 as they warm (because CO2 is less soluble in warmer water) are a few examples of these feedbacks.

What are common features of people who are perpetually single?
Q. Why are there men and women in their 30s who have never had a relationship despite being normal to even good looking healthy, polite, intelligent , friendly sociable etc. Though on average more men are likely to single and never had a relationship than women. Why are these people single?
Asked by james - Sat Jan 30 23:21:02 2010 - Singles & Dating - 10 Answers - 1 Comments
A. most likely some sort of emotional or psychological problem or disorder. I for one have a pretty great fear of commitment, as well as a fear of relationships in general (even as basic as friendship sometimes). I've been constantly struggling with these fears, and though I have had two girlfriends, and am currently working on number three, getting started with each of those relationships was painful, and took a LOT of willpower on my part. I assume other people suffer from the same fears, so that might be a major reason. Then there are also syndromes like Aspergers or Schizoid, where the person simply has no interest in relationships.

Why is my computer clock perpetually showing the wrong time?
Q. My computer clock is hopelessly out of sync. It's creepy - can a virus do that? If I reset it, the next time I start up it's out of sync again. It used to be okay, then it just stopped - if I try to sync it with something online it says there is a sync error. Any idea what's happening, or how I can fix it? (:

A. For some people, it is a difficult turning point. Men tend to access what they have accomplished, all of the dreams of their youth that may not have materialized by this point, and things are not often how they would like them to be. There is a kind of frustration that manifests itself in a general kind of melancholy towards the things and people that inhabit their life at the present. I know this, because I am going through this very problem right now and I am trying to analyze my own actions...which isn't easy. I would much rather pat myself on the back or wallow in self-pity, but I wouldn't learn anything that way. There is a patch of perpetually dry skin on my arm, should I be worried?
Q. This may sound stupid, but there is a patch of skin on my lower arm that never stops drying out and peeling. It has been there for at least 5 years, and started as a spot about the size of a quarter but has expanded. No matter how often I moisturize it, it keeps this cycle of drying and flaking, and no where else on my body does this. Is this common? I know it's not cancer, at least I think not. But does anyone know why this happens?

A. You need to see a dermatologist, it could be a serious skin condition.

Are there any negative effects to keeping a semi auto handgun cocked perpetually?
Q. I have a gun that takes significant force to cock plus for home defense I am not sure it makes sense to have a gun handy but not ready to go. Therefore I think it makes sense to keep it loaded and cocked. It is a PT111 and I would like to just keep it cocked and on safety. Well I guess on this weapon there is no decocker. Once you chamber a round it is cocked.
Asked by Darren G - Tue Mar 3 22:47:28 2009 - Hunting - 10 Answers - Comments
A. just for safety reasons. I think you are talking about a 1911, cause the 111 is cocked all the time if there is a round chambered. The 1911 has a hammer that does take a bit of force to cock, but is a double action. If thats the case, no need to leave it cocked, just pull the trigger.

A. Wars including civil wars have happened everywhere. The US is involved in essentially civil wars in Afganistan and Iraq right now. One reason that there seem to be a lot of civil wars in Africa is because most of the countries have political boundaries which are 1) not very old, and 2) don't make much sense. The political boundaries were created by the colonial powers (France, England, Belgium) for their own purposes, and in almost all cases involved binding together traditional tribes which were in competition. The result were unstable countries that invited bloody competition between ethnic and tribal groups to control the countries. It takes a long time (I'd say a couple hundred years) for most countries to develop enough stability so… [cont.]

A. Good question, but why would any capitalist supporter want to think about socialist groups at all? Consider the example of a homeowner who opens his home to a homeless man, as a socialist supporter would. Would the homeowner have a problem with the homeless eating all his food? using all the clean towels? Taking over the loo for an hour? The homeowning socialist should be glad he can support the homeless person and take pride that he is able to work hard and provide for himself and another. Now, How long with that last before the homeless person is kicked out for offering no support in reciprocation? Are you still socialist?
